What May Cause Divorce – Lack of Love, Cheating, Differences

by Tim on May 12, 2010

Over fifty percent of marriages end in divorce . It is a statistic that has been steadily rising over the past several hundred years.

There was a point in time when men and women could rise above the causes of divorce and find a way to stay together, but today’s society can’t seem to reconcile these differences .

The causes of divorce vary and they can be extremely personal for the couple.

Divorce has become quite commonplace and it’s really nothing to be ashamed of, we just have to make sure it is for the right reasons.

Irreconcilable Differences

One common cause of divorce is what is officially referred to as irreconcilable differences. The reason this particular cause is so common is because it really covers alot of ground, while at the same time leaving the actual reasons wide open . Oftentimes, this reason is sited by couples who married young and no longer have anything in common.

Other times, it refers to a disagreement on a fundamental issue, such as whether or not to have children. It could just mean that the couple argues too much. The term ‘irreconcilable differences’ is commonly used, but it is important that it is not used too likely.

Domestic Violence as a Cause of Divorce

A major cause of divorce, domestic violence, that has only in the past fifty years risen to the surface. Domestic violence is something that few people used to talk about because it was considered shameful.

Women have a lot more support nowadays and feel more confident coming forward and claiming domestic violence as a cause of divorce. That’s a very positive step in the right direction.

Cheater, Cheater, Pumpkin Eater

Cheating, or having an affair, is yet another major cause of divorce. Some couples are able to get past this with the help of counseling, but for the majority of married couples, this is just too much to handle. For many people, cheating is the worst kind of betrayal and something they just can’t get past, for them trust is everything and this becomes a very good reason for divorce.

For Better Or For Worse

Regardless of what the causes of a divorce are, the most important thing of all is that the divorce accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish. For some couples that just can’t bear to be in the same room as the person they are married to, divorce becomes the solution and levels the playing field, sometimes even bringing them closer together again .

For others, the hostilities and tensions that plagued their marriage will never go away. But if such tensions must persist, it is better that they do so outside of a marriage rather than within one.
